Toad Hall Guide to Terrarium Care
The Magic of a Miniature World
Terrariums are self-contained ecosystems, a little world of green that thrives with minimal attention. At Toad Hall we choose plants and materials carefully so your terrarium will flourish naturally and bring a bit of woodland enchantment indoors.
Here are our top tips to keep your terrarium looking beautiful for years to come!
Light | Terrariums love bright, indirect light.
Place near a window with filtered sun, north or east-facing is best.
Avoid direct sunlight, which can overheat and scorch plants through the glass.
If your space is dim, an LED grow light works beautifully.
Water | Less is more!
Sealed Terrariums: Water sparingly, about every 4-6 weeks. Look for light condensation on the glass; if it’s dry for several days, it’s time to water.
Lightly Closed Terrariums (non sealed lid): Water lightly every 10-14 days. Allow the top layer of soil to dry out between waterings.
Always use a mister or dropper avoid overwatering.
TIP: If you ever see standing water in your terrarium, leave the lid open for a few days until it evaporates.
Pruning & Grooming
Remove any yellowing or fallen leaves to prevent mold.
Trim plants that outgrow their space, a little haircut keeps them lush and tidy
If moss begins to brown, mist it with water.
Cleaning the Glass
If condensation or algae clouds your view:
Wipe gently with a soft cloth on the outside.
For the inside, use a cotton or swab or small brush to clear spots. No harsh cleaners needed.
Mr. Toad’s Troubleshooting Tips
Too much water? Mushy stems or mold mean it’s time to dry things out.
Too dry? Moss looks pale or plants droop - mist lightly.
Condensation always present? Open the lid a bit to release humidity.
